What it standardizes

It allows clients to display payments attached to posts or profiles. This turns support, tipping, rewards, spam deterrence and value-for-value signals into social objects.

The important thing to understand is that NIP-57 is not an app feature by itself. It is a shared convention. A client, relay, wallet, signer or adjacent service can implement the convention, ignore it, implement only part of it, or hide it behind a simpler user experience.
